Some volunteer opportunities require a time commitment.
Our goal is to meet your needs and expectations while also utilizing your talents to meet the needs of the Alaska SPCA.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Assist with bathing and transporting adoptable animals. Set-up and breakdown at off-site location. Talk with prospective adopters while they choose a new companion, helping them find a pet that fits their lifestyle. Explain the policies and procedures of adopting and have them fill out all necessary paperwork, including the adoption contract. Collect adoption fees.
Occasionally we may need assistance with carpentry, painting and other miscellaneous fix-it projects. Also, in an effort to beautify our location and create a more adoptable environment, landscaping and grounds work are occasional areas of need as well.
Pre-event committees and day-of event opportunities. The Alaska SPCA has a presence at many events as well as events specifically for fundraising.
Volunteer with the Development Team to help design, organize or implement fundraising campaigns or events. We especially need help from professional individuals with skills in the following areas: data management, community relations, graphic design, writing, and phone outreach.
Volunteers needed to assist with marketing campaigns, street team outreach, and earned media campaigns. Experienced graphic designers needed on occasion to create signage, brochures, and fliers.
Assist staff with office duties including answering the phone, entering information into our various databases, finding answers to questions about animal care and animal control, organizing and filing documents.
Take pictures of our adoptable animals for the Alaska SPCA website and social media pages. Take candid digital pictures of events, off-site adoption days, volunteers at shelter, staff at shelter, etc. Must have high-quality digital camera and ability to place pictures on a CD and mail to shelter. Pictures will be used on our Web site, Facebook, annual report, etc.
