Day 7: Kozak

Kozak is a loyal, intelligent 7-year-old shepherd mix who needed more than a shelter could offer. He's living with megaesophagus, a serious condition where the esophagus loses muscle function, causing it to become enlarged and unable to move food and water to the stomach. This condition can be life-threatening and requires special feeding protocols and care.
Kozak is also sensitive to overstimulation, and the noise of the shelter made it hard for him to heal or trust. Thanks to donor support, Kozak was placed in a foster home where routine, calm, and one-on-one care helped him finally bloom.
In foster care, Kozak—affectionately called Zak—gained weight, learned to play frisbee, and rediscovered joy. He loved car rides, snuggling, and playing fetch until he decided it was time to rest. Slowly, patiently, he built trust with the humans around him.
As Kozak’s confidence grew, so did the bond with his foster family. And in a beautiful turn of fate, the family who helped him heal realized they couldn’t let him go.

Kozak was adopted by his foster family, securing the quiet, loving home he needs. His story is a testament to patience, compassion, and the power of foster care.
