Fosters are more than just a home for our shelter pets to recover, relax, and grow. They are a caring place that provides support that helps these pets their whole lives through. Whether it’s a weekend or a couple weeks, you make a difference.
By becoming a foster today, you can give a pet the love and care they need to thrive.
Step One:
Complete the Fear Free Training
IMPORTANT:
To become a foster, you must complete the Fear Free Training. Download the form, fill it out, and upload it on the Fear Free training website to create an account.
After you finish your Fear Free training you'll get a Certificate of Completion. Please email this certificate to Natalie, our Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@alaskaspca.org.
Step Two:
Fill Out The Foster Form
The information you provide by completing this form allows us to better understand who you are and type of fostering you are interested in. It helps ensure that the fostering opportunities we offer you, work for you and your home.
Step Three:
Wait For Confirmation
After you have emailed your Fear Free Training Certificate, it will be marked in our system. You will be notified via email when this has occurred.​
Step Four:
Receive An Ask
Fostering needs can change often and are influenced by the specific circumstances of each situation. When we find a fostering opportunity that aligns with your interests, we will reach out to you through your preferred contact method.

What is provided?
Alaska SPCA provides you will all the supplies and instructions you need to be successful while fostering.

We also provide vet care and medication through our Vet Clinic for pets that are being fostered.

I want to foster, but I have other pets in my household. What do they need for me to foster?
All pets within the household must be up-to-date on their vaccines and be spayed/neutered in order for their household to be eligible to foster.

Can anyone foster?
Yes! As long as you completed the steps, followed the guidelines regarding any current pets in the household, and do not have a criminal record, you will be eligible to foster.
