Day 6: Morticia

When Morticia first arrived at the Alaska SPCA, she made her boundaries crystal clear: wide eyes, ears pinned back, and a body that said, “Stay away.” Shelter life was overwhelming for her, and as the weeks passed, staff worried the stress was wearing her down. But at Alaska SPCA, we live by a simple belief: if we can, we try—and thanks to donors, we do.

Slowly, Morticia began showing her true self to a few trusted people. One of them had exactly what she needed: a quiet spare room and a patient heart. Fostering gave her space to decompress, explore, and build courage at her own pace.
Today, Morticia is still independent, but braver—integrating into a home with new animal siblings and discovering confidence she never had in the shelter. Her transformation happened because someone chose to foster, because our team had resources, and because supporters like you make second chances possible.
And now, she’s not a foster pet anymore. She’s a full-fledged member of a new home and new furry sibling pack.
