Day 2: Payton

Payton arrived at the Alaska SPCA as a shy 1-year-old cat, unsure of her new surroundings but full of quiet curiosity. Though her stay with us was brief, it was just long enough for her personality to shine through—and for her perfect adopter to find her. Today, Payton is thriving in her new home.
Her adopter shares that she is “the perfect kitty,” happiest when it’s just the two of them together. Payton is playful and energetic, favoring a simple plastic spring toy over the many others she’s been gifted.
She spends her days sunbathing on her window perch, investigating every corner of the house, and showing off her fascination with her automatic litter box. While still shy around visitors, she’ll bravely approach anyone offering a Churu treat.
Payton’s journey with us may have been short, but it opened the door to the loving life she deserves.

A recent update from her adopter:
I couldn't be happier with Payton. I had been wanting a kitty for quite some time and when I came by the shelter, I almost passed Payton up because she was buried in her cat bed and refused to come out. I was about to leave, but decided to take another look at her. She still wouldn't come out , but she was so beautiful and I decided to take a chance on her.
Alaska SPCA let me take the cat bed with her, since she wasn't coming out. When I got home with her, she immediately ran under the couch and then my bed. I decided to give her some space and put her litter box and food in the room.

After a week or so, she still refused to come out. Although, I was able to get her close for a Churu treat, she would immediately run back once she was done. I started to worry that she wasn't ever going to come out.
One day, while sitting on my couch, I saw movement in my bedroom. Out walked Payton like she had been doing it the whole time. She did some exploring, some looking out the window, and slowly, she came out more and more.
It has now been about 6 months since I brought her home and she has been the perfect little friend for me. We moved into a new house with stairs and she loves to run up and down them. She no longer hides under the bed and you can hear her little feet galloping around the house constantly playing.
My boyfriend and I are really the only people she is comfortable around, but with us, she is a very loving, affectionate, and extremely bratty little girl and I couldn't imagine my life without her.
